Roland Juno 106 Midi Editor Controller VST Emulator VST-AU JUNO-106 Editor by reKon audio. 21 hours ago  Everybody loves the Roland Juno chorus, right? Then there’s one more reason to celebrate this Christmas. Arturia are offering their Chorus JUN-6 as a free gift until December 29th! Chorus JUN-6 is modeled after the iconic analog stereo effect found in the Roland Juno.

Cherry claims the Juno-106 emulation is so authentic that users can even import Sysex data from the original hardware and transfer the data into the VSTi. We’re not exactly sure of how this is done precisely, but that’s interesting.

What could possibly be really exciting is the MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) feature. We’re not sure how this is handled or what attributes are affected by the MPE implementation, but this is another dynamic feature that would modernize the this 25 year-old synth’s performance functionality.

Cherry also added waveforms to the LFO section for a total of six available, which can be beat-sync’d. There is also a new unison mode with detune for beefing up the sounds. A reverb at the end of the signal chain with three different algorithms is available. The demo patches on Cherry’s website are somewhat drowning in reverb, so it’s hard to tell precisely how they stand up on their own, but you can download a 30-Day trial and find out yourself.

After all, the success of the Roland Juno synths was also due to the addition of two chorus types, which would spice up the one-oscillator-per-voice architecture.

Arturia recently released the V Collection 8, which features an emulation of the Roland Juno 6. It makes sense to see them taking the chorus out of it and releasing it a separate plugin, which will be part of their commercial plugin offering after this Christmas week.

FYI: Arturia is not the first company offering a free plugin that emulates the iconic Roland Juno chorus.
TAL, the maker of the classic TAL-U-NO-LX synth plugin, also has (since 2017) a free version of this chorus, named TAL-Chorus-LX. You can download the plugin here.
I haven’t compared the two yet, but I would expect the Arturia version to be more faithful to the original Roland Juno chorus simply because it’s a much newer plugin – usually (but not always) when it comes to algorithmic modeling newer also means more accurate. Anyway, they’re both free, so here’s your chance to put the two side by side and compare them!
