When you hit a note on your midi keyboard, the plugin creates a tiny loop, at the wavelength of that note.
I Wish allows you to freeze your audio in any pitch you like. There are various uses for this plug-in such as creating robotic voice effects, pitched stutter effects, musical drum beats, mind bending ear candies – the possibilities are endless! It can even be used as a polyphonic synthesizer, with real-time wavetable oscillators! This essentially allows you to make music from noise. I Wish is the only plug-in that allows pitch based micro-editing on the fly. Since the result is heavily dependent on the audio and MIDI you feed the plug-in, it will always be highly personalized and unique to you.

The idea for this plug-in came from Infected Mushroom’s work on their track “I Wish”, in which they manually chopped and edited tiny loops for several days in order to achieve the desired special effect. This plugin creates the same effect, but instantly, instead of several days.
Polyverse Music have created a rough prototype VST of the plug-in for the group’s personal use. However, after two years of using the plug-in Infected Mushroom have decided the plug-in was too good to be kept for themselves, and decided to release their secret weapon! By the time we have finished developing I Wish, Infected Mushroom have have been using it extensively throughout their latest album “Converting Vegetarians 2”.

MAKE I WISH YOUR SECRET WEAPON TODAY
Today we bring to you a capable Reverb product by SIR Audio Tools. This is a reverb product that works with “impulse-responses”. Impulse-responses are created by recording broadspectrum sound pulses and their corresponding room-reflections. Anything you get is made up of the data needed to reproduce a similar space with a Convolution reverb.
SIR1 can import WAV files, in order to create a “convolution”. The plugin can stretch audio, and it has a predelay capable of up to 300 ms of predelay. If you want more predelay for a more audio “non delayed” hit / transient on a sound, you can upgrade – SIR Audio Tools also offers a “bigger brother” model called SIR2, which can import SIR, WAV, AIF, FLAC, BWS, OGG, and is available for both Windows VST and Mac AU. This is in contrast to the Windows VST only format of SIR1. The upgrade cost of going from SIR1 to SIR2 is ~150€.
I have personally used this reverb, and do recommend it. Although at points I wish I had the power and higher quality of the SIR2 product, the SIR1 unit meets my own personal needs for the large majority of my own sound design and artistry purposes. For my own personal style of production I am often seeking to achieve a distinct lo fi sound anyway, so the lower quality (in sample rate) of this unit in comparison to some other free reverbs out does not make it a lesser choice, necessarily.
Along with a good digital reverb (I will pick out a few of these for future posts – stay tuned); A decent convolution reverb is a completely necessary piece of kit. For this reason I do recommend the SIR1 by SIR Audio tools for anyone in need of a basic convolver. Have fun, and happy producing. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
